Melissa Ptok, PhD
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
I have always been drawn to what lives beneath the surface.
Before I became a psychotherapist, I spent years studying the brain, completing a MSc and PhD in Neuroscience and Psychology, trying to understand how experience shapes emotion, behaviour, and connection. I was fascinated by how early relationships become patterns in adulthood, and how the nervous system quietly carries our history forward.
But research and theory weren't enough.
What drew me to psychotherapy was something more human: the power of being deeply heard. The moment when insight shifts from intellectual understanding into lived clarity. The quiet relief that comes when your patterns begin to make sense.
Peak Insight Therapy was born from that intersection - science and story, brain and body, depth and steadiness.
My work is grounded in three pillars:
Attachment focused therapy
We explore how early relational experiences shaped your expectations of closeness, safety, and vulnerability - and how those patterns may still be influencing your present relationships.
Nervous system awareness and regulation
Anxiety, shutdown, hyper-independence and overthinking are not flaws. They are nervous system strategies. When we understand the biology beneath the spiral, we can respond with clarity rather than self-criticism.
Insight-oriented psychotherapy
You likely already think deeply. In our work, we move beyond intellectual insight into embodied understanding where change becomes integrated, not just conceptual.
My style is thoughtful and grounded. Structured, but spacious. Curious, but steady.
